Ólafur Elíasson - "Friendly coexistence spheres"
Ólafur Elíasson:
“Fourfold future” / "Friendly coexistence spheres"
Four tapering shafts, constructed from panels of matte black aluminium and lined with mirrors, form a cluster of four elementary kaleidoscopes. The cross-section of each kaleidoscope corresponds to a different geometric shape and the interior of each is clad with a different type of reflective glass: the square kaleidoscope is lined with ordinary everyday panes of mirror glass; the triangular kaleidoscope with panes of silvered, hand-blown yellow glass; and the rhombic and square kaleidoscopes with different hues of iridescent colour-effect filter glass. Fragmented reflections of the surroundings mingle within each kaleidoscope, continually shifting in response to the viewer’s movements and changing perspectives.
In the "Friendly coexistence spheres" the 3 colourless spheres contrast with the hexagonal prism of blue color effect glass.
